Spring Ahead

Hi Folks-

A quick note to let you know I survived the winter and am enjoying spring.  I am doing lots of video lessons and recording, sending tracks back and forth, making excellent use of the internet.  I'm also working on a new instrumental CD, playing some East Coast shows with Tracy Grammer, Maria Sangiolo, Blue Horizon and others.  And hopefully the customized song business will be up and running shortly.  I'll also be back at Falcon RIdge Folk Fest this year.

To find out more about the video lessons just drop me an email.

Video Lessons...

Well, Santa brought me a camera for my computer so I can now offer lessons via the internet. I have already done one and it's a lot of fun, and yes, very cool. There are at least a couple of ways for this to happen. One is to video chat, meaning you and I are both online and video enabled simultaneously, seeing and hearing each other in real time. It's like getting together for a regular guitar lesson. The other way is for me to make a video teaching you a song, technique, approach, sound (whatever) and then sending it to you for you to watch and learn when you have time. Both methods are suited to your individual needs. For more info drop a line to jim@jimhenry.net. Stay warm!!!

Easing in to Fall

Well, it's starting to happen- summer is giving way to fall. It's cool during the day and it's getting cold at night. I always remember my college days in September. I went to Hampshire College which is just down the road from where I live now. Jamming in the quad, apple cider donuts and fresh squeezed cider from Atkins Farm, oh yeah, and classes.

This is the first autumn in awhile that I'll be here in New England to watch the whole place change from green to brown. Of course, it's the part in between that is so magnificent. So, for those of you interested in lessons or recording now is a good chance to make that happen while I'm home and available. I recently finished playing and recording a track for a woman from the west coast. She sent me a rough version over the internet with some ideas and suggestions, I recorded a version and sent it back. She listened and wanted some changes which I made and sent her the final version as .wav files. The whole thing took 2 hours with no added studio or travel costs involved. Very cool! Check out the services page for more info of this process.

Take care, JH

King of Hearts has arrived!!

That's right. The UPS guy drove up in the pouring rain and the two of us got soaked unloading the CD's. They look terrific. I'll listen to one to make sure it's actually me on there (I once bought a Casey Chambers CD which had all her photos and info on the packaging and CD itself but had opera burned on to the disc instead of her) then start getting them in the mail. Some will be sent from TN which is where my distributor is located. But soon they will arrive in your mailbox! On to Falcon Ridge Folk Fest...JH

Jacksonville Digital Only...

I have officially sold out of Jacksonville. Rather than print another batch I have decided to make the world a cleaner, less cluttered place and offer it only in the digital realm. This seems to be where the music world is heading anyway. It is now available on itunes and CDbaby. So, ignore the "add to cart" button on my music page-it will only lead to heartache.

Previous News...

Welcome to my new and improved web site! The old one was so outdated I used a rotary telephone to upload it to the server. But thanks to the computer savvy and finesse of Adam Sweeney, my site has entered the new millennium. So, enjoy. Thanks for coming by.

There's a lot of news to report from Shutesbury, MA. First, I am starting work on a new EP which I hope will be out in time for the Falcon Ridge folk Festival. It will follow the same format as One-Horse Town (also Tracy Grammer's Book of Sparrows and Verdant Mile) - just Tracy and me playing and singing our little hearts out here at my home studio. Likely songs will include Richard Thompson's "'52 Vincent", "28th of January" and a couple of my new songs. Stay tuned for more info as it develops.

Second is my return to teaching after a long hiatus. I have decided to back off from long distance touring (i.e. flying to gigs) for the foreseeable future. I taught for many years before I had kids and now that they older, and I have more time, I am excited to get back in the teaching saddle. Check out the Services page for info on that.

Speaking of services, the last bit of news is that I am publicizing many of the services that till now have been strictly word of mouth. I am excited to offer up my recording studio (humble as it is) to those interested in doing small projects. Also it's now possible for me to add tracks to other people's recordings by sending WAV files back and forth over the internet. Very cool. So, take a look at the Services page and see what might work for you.

Thanks again for stopping by. My hope is to update this site regularly, so in the immortal words of Jed Clampett, "Y' all come back now, y'hear?"
